How it all started
Founded in 1856, the London Cricket Club (LCC) stands as a symbol of heritage, excellence, and community spiritin London’s sporting history. With an incredible 178-year legacy, LCC continues to play a pivotal role in nurturing cricket in the region, fostering a love for the game among players and fans alike. The club embodies diversity, inclusion, and cultural pride, welcoming players from all walks of life to join its dynamic cricketing community.
LCC’s journey is intertwined with iconic moments in cricket history. The club’s roots date back to the same era as the first-ever international cricket match played between Canada and the USA. Since then, LCC has hosted notable fixtures, including a 1967 match against the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) and a 1977 match against the Lord’s Taverners at Fanshawe Park. These moments solidify LCC’s role as a respected force in Canadian cricket.
The club’s partnership with the West Indian Cricket Club in 1987 reflects its enduring commitment to inclusivity and community building. LCC’s dedication is further supported by its lifetime members, who have played a crucial role in its growth and success. Esteemed lifetime members include Hank Carter (1976), Tony Elmslie (1986), ED Ward (1992), Sean Mitchell (2023) Mikhil (2024) and Adrian (2024).
Throughout its history, LCC has played on several iconic cricket grounds, including Tecumseh Park, Fanshawe Park, the London Psychiatric Hospital grounds, Maitland Park, North London Athletic Fields, Silver Woods, and Northridge. These locations bear witness to LCC’s adaptability and enduring presence in London’s sporting landscape.
Our approach
At the London Cricket Club (LCC), we are more than just a team — we are a thriving community committed to fostering the growth of cricket in London and beyond. Our efforts extend far beyond the pitch, as we actively support local talent, promote youth engagement, and create inclusive opportunities for players of all ages and backgrounds. Through training programs, community events, and partnerships, we aim to inspire the next generation of cricket enthusiasts.
Our story
Over the past four years, the London Cricket Group has actively participated in both 30 overs and 20 overs London Cricket Leagues, showcasing our commitment to the sport’s diverse formats. Additionally, we have been proud participants in the Hamilton Cricket League for the past five years, further extending our reach and competition. The both leagues run throughout the summer, starting in mid May, with playoffs in September / October.
At the heart of our cricketing excellence are our four dynamic teams: LCC Titans, Warriors, Tigers, and Mavericks. Representing players from diverse backgrounds and cultures, our teams showcase the global spirit of cricket. With a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and excellence, we provide a platform where players from all walks of life come together to compete, grow, and celebrate the game of cricket.
LCC Initiative: Building an Inclusive Cricketing Community
The London Cricket Club (LCC) is dedicated to promoting cricket as a tool for community development, youth empowerment, and social inclusion. Our initiative focuses on fostering a love for cricket while creating equitable opportunities for participation, leadership, and personal growth.
Key Components of the Initiative
- School Cricket Program
The School Cricket Program introduces cricket to youth aged 7 to 13 in local schools, especially in underserved and newcomer communities. Through structured training, mentorship, and skill-building sessions, children develop not only cricket techniques but also critical life skills like teamwork, leadership, and discipline. This program is offered free of cost, breaking financial barriers and ensuring inclusivity for all children, regardless of background. - Community Cricket Festival
The Community Cricket Festival is an annual celebration of cricket that brings together families, youth, and cricket enthusiasts from across London. It promotes cultural pride, social cohesion, and belonging for diverse communities, including South Asian, Caribbean, African, and newcomer groups. The festival includes cricket matches, family-friendly activities, and opportunities for local residents to connect and engage in cultural exchange. - Youth Leadership and Mentorship
LCC actively encourages youth from marginalized communities to take on leadership roles within the club. By providing mentorship opportunities and access to leadership training, young people are inspired to pursue roles as coaches, captains, and club ambassadors. This initiative empowers the next generation to lead with confidence and develop critical skills for personal growth. - Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Commitment
LCC is committed to creating a cricketing environment that values diversity and inclusion. The initiative prioritizes the participation of players from racialized groups, newcomers, refugees, and individuals from low-income communities. By ensuring fair representation on the Board of Directors, coaching staff, and leadership team, LCC reflects the multicultural spirit of the community it serves. - Sustainability and Growth
The LCC initiative is designed to be sustainable and scalable. By establishing partnerships with schools, community centers, and local government, LCC ensures that cricket remains a part of the local sports landscape. The Community Cricket Festival model is replicable in other regions, offering an opportunity to expand the initiative’s impact beyond London.
